Solid Carbide Gundrills are a two piece construction design. They are available in diameters from .055"- .1875". The tip and body are a single piece of Carbide brazed to the Driver/Shank and the flute is ground down the length of the head and body. The absence of the braze joint at the head/body transition eliminates the possibility of coolant flow obstructions internally while adding significant strength to the tool.
The greatest benefit to this type of tool is its rigidity. When a tool enters a material, as well as while its drilling, it is exposed to torque forces or wind-up. This has a detrimental effect on the carbide resulting in premature wear. The Solid Carbide Gundrill's strength resists the wind-up forces. Many applications yield a high surface footage; the maximum allowable unsupported length of your standard Gundrill restricts optimum performance due to whip. The Solid Carbide Gundrill enables maximum productivity through its rigidity and yields higher penetration rates and dramatic increases in tool life. Solid Carbide Gundrills are available in diameters from .055" - .1875" with lengths to 10". |
